New on Prime Video: Mark Little and Lilit Lesser in award-winning indie drama Passing Through

A fiery indie drama set in the South of France, Passing Through, the award-winning debut feature by writer and director David Walter Hall, is available now on Amazon Prime Video in the UK.

Best known for his stint as Joe Mangel on the soap Neighbours, Olivier-winning Australian actor Mark Little stars in the film alongside Lilit Lesser (Princess Mary, Wolf Hall), Sam Baker Jones (DC Liam Payne, DI Ray) and Angela Koo, who has worked with the film’s director in a string of stage productions.

The film was shot in and around the town of Agde in Occitanie, and tells the story of an Australian couple, Tom and Iona, who have rashly upped sticks and moved to France, only months after meeting. All is well until Tom’s estranged son turns up unannounced, travelling with his French girlfriend, and old wounds are quickly reopened.

The film tackles age-old themes of family and forgiveness, and also explores the legacy of childhood sexual abuse on adult survivors.

Passing Through won a number of awards during its festival run including at the Ramsgate International Film and TV Festival, where it won Best First Feature, selected by veteran actor Brenda Blethyn, who said, “Passing Through by David Walter Hall is beautifully shot. The setting is the South of France: carefree, happy, sunny but with the unexpected arrival of an estranged son, we’re suddenly plunged into the mysteries and conflicts of the past. Why did he turn up out of the blue and with a girlfriend with as many secrets of her own? I cared about each character with varying degrees of sympathy. I even forgave the annoying visitor from Australia. The performances, led by Mark Little, are faultless and the beautifully nuanced direction from David Walter Hall, who also wrote the screenplay, is really impressive. There’s a great soundtrack too from Jonny Phillips.”

The film was also awarded Best Feature at the New Renaissance Film Festival London, and selected for the Belfast Film Festival, Brighton Rocks, NewFilmmakersNY, the Silk Road International Film Festival, the Barcelona Indie Awards and the 2026 Les Hérault de Cinéma.

Made on a small budget with passion and perseverance, Passing Through was produced by an international team led by US producers Patrick Richter and Yajaira Marie Quinto, and is distributed by Indigo Entertainment.

Director David Walter Hall said, “Making this film has been a journey of discovery. I went into it almost blind, experienced only in writing and occasionally directing for theatre. I had to learn a lot about focal lengths, shooting schedules, editing marathons and festival circuits – the whole process. I think I also learned something about myself: that I’d been a filmmaker all along and just never realised it. Passing Through is a celebration of a part of the world that’s very dear to me, and all the people who have found themselves there on their own journeys of discovery.”
